I assumed that a switch needs to have the ability to enter a static arp in order to work with MultiCast NLB.
In this case, you need to manually Configure Static ARP Resolution at the switch or router for each port connecting to ESX's NICs
Due to i did not found this entry, i thought that:
a) Unicast will always work regadless the switch/network inviroment
b) Mulitcast req. a switch/router to handle this correctly, if not present multicast will not work at all
Are my asumtions generaly wrong?
I have tried it and made the cluster to multicast (no icmp) and it is working now.
But can you take away my fear that this will not always be the case.
Asume i will not know the network of the clients (1000 of them) which may use then this application...
