Sounds like you'll need to call VMWare support and pay for an incident. They could provide another trial license, or it may be worth it to purchase a single license. It sounds like without VMWare intervention in your circumstances, that you are stuck.
Re: Trial License after 60 days
Re: Bit Confused
Hi,
you can actually get an ESXi free version,https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/evalcenter?p=free-esxi5&lp=default
Guess this should help.

Re: Windows Server 2012 won't release mouse cursor even with VMware Tools installed
I don't have any issue like that with my console access to W2012 or W2012R2 VMs on ESXi 5.1 U1/U2.
You can use newer VMware Tools versions on your VMs compared to the ESXi version your hosts are running. This is fully supported as per the VMware Product Interoperability Matrix. It shows that you can use even use the latest 5.5 U1 Tools on old ESX(i) 4.x hosts.
Doing this also saves you pointless updates and reboots should you upgrade your hosts soon.
I'd recommend trying your luck with a newer tools package first.
Re: HA question / VM restart capability
thanks DaniOpera, In my cluster settings - my drop down menu is not coming so select use cluster settings..
reason : - i think I need a separate license for it. which i don't currently have.
Can't get ESXi 5.5 connected to Nexsan E18
Just brought up a VMware server running 5.5, Dell R620 10GB FC connection to switch and E18 connected to same switch. Have LUNs(volumes) created on the E18. E18, has 10GB FC connections configured on same subnet, going to a FC switch and a single FC connection on the server configured on the same subnet. I'm trying to prepare for a V2V migration, but initially I'm having difficulty getting vSphere and SAN to talk. What do I need to do to get these 2 to talk?
I've added VMkernel and put it on the same subnet, in a vSwitch. I've added all 4 iqn's to the SAN, from the iSCSI adaptors. I've watched a video where they configured to vSphere with SAN iqn, but can't figure out where this SAN iqn comes from.
NIC hardware avaiable
SAN - per 2 controllers
2 - 10GB FC total - 4
4 - 1GB eth. total - 8
Server
2 - 10GB FC
2 - 10GB eth.
4 - 1GB eth.
Re: Mount vmdk from one VM in a different VM... any risks?
I don't plan on having the server VM up while I am doing it... so will I still encounter file locking issues?
Would it be better if I just removed the server VM from the inventory before connecting the VMDK to the client VM?
Does anyone know of a resource where I can find if the snapshot in the server VM will be a problem for the client VM or for server VM once the scan is done?
Re: Mount vmdk from one VM in a different VM... any risks?
Your plan was fine minus the snapshot info. I have not been able to find any info on how to do that out there. I was referring to the shared disk post the previous poster put out there.
Re: VMFS partition table corruption? Need help to recover data
Dear continuum, your investigation give me some idea and i check it out.
I booted Microserver from your moa64dvd.iso, export /dev/sda over iscsi, connect to this target from temporary ESXi (nested, to be clean, running in VM on my laptop) and do some testing.
Datastore is still not able to mount, but some things has changed:

Re: Update Manager not showing patch as available/required
All hosts started at build 1474528. 3 hosts on 1 vCenter went from this build to build 1746018 with remediation. These hosts are Del R720s. 3 other hosts on another vCenter are Dell R710s. I have tried one host, and it started at build 1474528 and will only go to build 1623387 with remediation. Any further scans show no applicable patches.
Re: VMFS partition table corruption? Need help to recover data
Yahooo!!!!!
VMKB2046610 was very helpful. After that datastore is still not mounted, "Device t10.9454450000000000EE8FCFE0BB7DC8AD5ECB14B22BC42643:1 detected to be a snapshot", but vmkb1011387 help me.
Now i have access to vmdk, will try to recover data and recreate VMFS on raid-array.
Thank you, sanbarrow, for your help!
Re: CPU is not compatible error
More than likely because the EVC settings do not take place on the Hosts until they are rebooted.
Re: Heartbleed vulnerability OpenSSL
I just wanted to let you know that we opened up a case with vmware in regards to the update for vCenter 175078, still showing the OpenSSL to be at 1.0.1e and they have confirmed that this is expected but as long as you have the update installed you are protected. Below is the exact response we received:
"I have been doing my research and also clarified about this with my senior engineers.
Ultimately got to know that upgrading vCenter to 5.5.0 c fixes the Heart Bleed attack issue without upgrading the Open SSL version to 1.0.1g.
So, as per the update which i received, we are safe now and the version 1.0.1e which is showing is expected with the update but unfortunately it is not clearly documented yet in any articles of VMware."
esxi 5.5 on mac mini (i7) install NOT working
Downloaded exsi5.5 yesterday, burned it to CD
Loaded the superdrive into the mac mini
reboot holding C
booted off CD
esxi begins to install then I get the pink screen of death and the following error message:
no place on disk to dump data
no file configured to dump data
debugger waiting (world 32768) -- no port for remote debugger
Did some looking around and found the other active mac mini thread that said to add:
iovDisableIR=TRUE
That did not solve the problem, with that setting the esxi installer locks up after "/k.b00"
Any advice welcome. Note the mac mini functions completely fine when booting into os x.
Re: Heartbleed vulnerability OpenSSL
Yeah I tweeted @VMwareKB and they updated the KB VMware KB: Resolving OpenSSL Heartbleed for VMware vCenter Server 5.5 .
They added this note.
Note: These releases upgrade the OpenSSL libraries. The openssl.exe
file remains unchanged and will display the same version number as it did previously.
Cheers
Re: Windows Server 2012 won't release mouse cursor even with VMware Tools installed
Hi Sjoerd,
if you have VMTools properly installed the cursor should be released automatically without pressing <CTRL>+<ALT>....
Please check state of VMTools drivers in Device Manager and its services? Have you already tried reinstall them?
I would recommend you to patch your environment as much as possible preferably to the "latest 5.1" release 5.1U2.
Have a look at this KB it has quite interesting information ... bit obsolete but as last try it can be useful:
VMware KB: Mouse fails to respond in the virtual machine console
Yes you can install latest VMTools package but I would be more conservative if you want to go this way (as workaround) install latest tools for 5.1U2 release. You can download packages from here:

and Good Luck!

Jumbo Frames & Performance
When using an iSCSI network, is it possible that Jumbo Frames could hurt performance?
Re: Jumbo Frames & Performance
The big mistake folks make with jumbo frames, and where it gets a bad rap for performance, is when it's not properly implemented. As you probably know, you need to have jumbo frames enabled on every device in the path or else fragmentation occurs which severely affects performance.
I've never seen properly implemented jumbo frames cause perf. degradation. At worst, there's been no significant improvement in my experience.
ESXi 5.1.0 Dell Power Edge R710 + PSOD
Hello Everyone,
Yesterday we got a PSOD screen in one of our ESXi host running with vSphere 5.1.0 version. However the issue was resolved after the reboot of the ESXi host. Below is the details regarding to the PSOD.

Need enlightenment, super slow sata writes.
Hello,
Running esxi 5.5 on a Z77 chipset, (home gear.) esxi seems to pickup the controller (Panther Point AHCI Controller) and on the drives but writing to the drive is dead slow.

This is an esata raid enclosure running on a single sata channel, if I do that neat little unsupported trick of making it an RDM to guest machine, it runs at full speed.
Now I understand that it could easily be slower than running it as an RDM, but this is abysmal, also add to this that there are no vm's running on this host at this time.
This was done using dd to fill out a fake file, the SSD which is the first drive is a lot slower too, but at 60MB/s it's significantly more tolerable.
I know this is not a battery backed sata or sas raid controller, but it should be significantly above where it's at.
Any insight would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!

Re: Notification when a virtual machine/desktop is being shutdown/terminated
I do not know VDI at all, but if those are windows machines, you could use the built in task planner.
Trigger "On disconnect from user session" and execute your script to release the license.
Same may go for acquiring license, trigger "On connection to user session" instead.
