Re: ESXi 6 Stateless Autodeploy Hosts and TCPIP6

Hi,

The answer is as follows...

Ensure you configure the following options for all VMKernel adapters in your host profile

Networking Configuration > Host virtual NIC > vDS Instance : Switch Name : dvPortGroup-iSCSI-1 > IP address settings > Enable IPv6 Address via Router advertismentsUser must explicitly choose the policy option
Networking Configuration > Host virtual NIC > vDS Instance : Switch Name : dvPortGroup-iSCSI-1 > Enable IPv6 Address via DHCPUser must explicitly choose the policy option

As well as the kernel module

Kernel Module Configuration > Kernel Module > tcpip4 > ipv6 > Module Parameter Settings
Nameipv6
Value

0

The profile can then be saved!

Hiya,

The vCenter Server Appliance has got it's self in a loop.  it's not booting.  Am I able to just get one of the replicated VM's up on another ESXi server as all the files look up to date on the remote storage store?

ciphers vcenter/hosts

I want to know which cipher is being used by vcenter and esxi.

ESXi and vcenter version :5.5 U2

entry in sshd_config

#ChrootDirectory none

Ciphers aes256-ctr,aes128-ctr

MACs hmac-sha1

openssl s_client -cipher LOW -connect <ip address of ESXi>:443

CONNECTED(00000003)

25892:error:140790E5:SSL routines:SSL23_WRITE:ssl handshake failure:s23_lib.c:188:

openssl s_client -cipher LOW -connect  <ip address of vcenter>:443

CONNECTED(00000003)

27482:error:140790E5:SSL routines:SSL23_WRITE:ssl handshake failure:s23_lib.c:188:

It is giving this error.

So is there any way i can confirm the current ciphers.

Hello chs1, Can we also fetch 2 things ( Lincense key and Lincense type ).  I tried a few ways, but they all failed.

in this same Script, can you suggest a few modification to get those 2 details per host.

Yes, it doesn't matter which lines are empty. It's just to make it more readable.

Again, don't forget to adapt the script to your environment.

Ubuntu upgrade trashed eth0 - but the config is still there

Good afternoon, all!

While on a short holiday, a colleague updated a VM from 14.04 to 16.04.  Problem is, the network interface is now gone - only from ifconfig. The VM settings show the original E1000 NIC and the /etc/network/interfaces is still there, pointing to eth0.

I seem to remember a network issue cloning a Linux VM, but nothing on the upgrade.

Anyone run into a similar issue?

Thanks!

Gregg

You can do this manually if there's no way to recover the VM using the GUI.

Firstly, you should stop replication using the command line method: https://kb.vmware.com/kb/2106946

In the past I've just used the existing set of replica files, and it worked ok:

See here from my lab:

-rw-------    1 root     root          8684 Oct  5 06:56 hbrcfg.GID-51f7e490-895a-43d2-b303-c67521e17c18.411.nvram.822

-rw-------    1 root     root          2951 Oct  5 06:56 hbrcfg.GID-51f7e490-895a-43d2-b303-c67521e17c18.411.vmx.821

-rw-------    1 root     root         12288 Oct  5 06:56 hbrdisk.RDID-9cc2fe60-1b54-44b7-b08c-789873f8d16f.416.96532343697320-delta.vmdk

-rw-------    1 root     root           371 Oct  5 06:56 hbrdisk.RDID-9cc2fe60-1b54-44b7-b08c-789873f8d16f.416.96532343697320.vmdk

-rw-------    1 root     root          2700 Oct  5 06:56 hbrgrp.GID-51f7e490-895a-43d2-b303-c67521e17c18.txt

-rw-------    1 root     root     4294967296 Oct  5 06:56 linux-01-flat.vmdk

-rw-------    1 root     root           494 Oct  5 06:56 linux-01.vmdk

I think you could rename hbrcfg.GID-51f7e490-895a-43d2-b303-c67521e17c18.411.nvram.822 to linux-01.nvram, and do the same with the vmx

Then register the VM in the inventory using the vmx.

Alternatively, you could create a new VM with the same name/configuration. During the VM creation wizard, select to use an existing virtual disk, and choose your replica VMDKs.

Invoke failed: /sbin/localcli system syslog config set

I got below error on ESXi 5.5 update 3 when setting external log host for parameter "Syslog.global.logHost"

A general system error occurred: Invoke failed: /sbin/localcli system syslog config set --loghost=udp://10.0.0.24:514

A quick search for "Invoke failed: /sbin/localcli system syslog config set" does not return exact result message as I have.

Hi Support,

How can I check FcoE HBA driver version Esxi 6.0?

We are using HP VC FlexFabric 10Gb/24-Port Module

I am getting different out put from

vmkload_mod -s qlnativefc |grep Version

vmkload_mod -s mptspi |grep Version

cat /proc/scsi/bnx2fc/*

Its not mentioned which is the driver version.

Thanks,

Use 'esxcfg-scsidevs -a' firstly to check what driver is being used.

The second column of the output is the driver. Pass that driver into the  vmkload_mod command to get the specific driver version.
