Re: Windows 2012R2 installation issue on ESXi 5.1U1

Hi guys,

Microsoft support told me today that they replicate the issue with the same error code as me on Hyper-V.

Earlier, they tested, without replicating the issue on hyper-v / Dell Precision 690/Windows 2012.

But now, they replicate it with hyperV/Dell  Precision t7500/Windows 2012 R2.

The support guy will try again the replicate it on Windows 2012 to verify. But earlier on this thread I wrote it was ok on 2012. So the issue is 2012R2 related.

The replication on Microsoft side will make the debuging easier.

Now they are debugging the kernel and setup.exe  with the Debug and the Windows source code.

Best regards

ML

It's FiberChannel, so it would be FC. I'll talk to the SAN guy about this some more, maybe he missed something.

Get him to check the zoning. This can hide the LUN from other hosts.

Thanks.

Hello again !

Thanks for tip, I've tried it and it works ok. I've started up Nexenta, created NFS share, connected it to ESXi as a datastore. Migrating 50GB VM from dedicated HDD to NFS was ok, speed ~150MBs.

But when I've tried to start migrated VM there was no luck (VM status is Powered On, but actually there no any reaction from VM).

I started to dig deeper.

I've tried to migrate that VM back to dedicated HDD. Read speed from Nexenta's NFS became incredibly slow (KBs) and the connection is dropping permanently. 1% of copying took several hours. As I understand, ESXi starting to copy from one DS to another, loses connection, trying to restore it, starting to copy again, etc...

There's nothing bad in logs in both ESXi and Nexenta.

I have no more idea where to dig to. Maybe someone got ideas ?

Thanks.

HA protected or not?

Many VM in a vSphere 5 cluster are reported as HA "Unprotected" with the following message:

Unprotected
vShphere may attempt to restart the VM after a supported failure but is not guaranteed to do so
The VM is unprotected when the following conditions have been met:
VM is in a vSphere HA enabled cluster
VM powered on successfully after a user-initiated power on
vSphere HA has not recorded that the desired prower state for this VM is on

I looked for the meaning of the messages but I was unable to locate any explaination.

Is the VM protected or not?

How can I troubleshoot and solve this issue?

Regards

marius

Is the firmware on the IBM Server up to date including:

  • uEFI/BIOS
  • Integrated Management Module
  • Nic drivers for Emulex/Intel/Broadcom cards?

Download IBMs latest Bootable Media Creator for Windows, run it and make sure to choose to download the latest drivers

I shall copy dump file on Monday itself.

I doubt that since the core dump would be around 110MB

Also, from the first glance, I find it that a shell process is being processed during the PSOD and this shell process is trying to load a module which involves the heap creation. Unfortunately, the heap creation is met with PF14.

In your vmkernel log, just before the PSOD, can you look for any process which are being run. Also, just upload the vmkernel.log, l can also help you to find the culprit

Loose network connection on Dell Switch after HA event

Hi all,

I'm having problems with my switch after High Availabilty event.

I explain :

I have two physical servers( ESXI 5.1.0 914609 ). They are linked to an MD 3200 SAS storage ).

I have a vcenter server with HA set .

I'm having problems when an hypervisor goes down. The HA migrate right the VM from the server down to the working one, but after host migration, the host have no network connectivity. The server says the network is good, the card is on but i can't ping anything.

If i reset the switch where the servers and the MD3200 are plugged, all goes good.

Thanks for your help.

dhanarajramesh,

I read through the web page you suggested, and then when I imported the copied LUN I told VMware to re-signature the LUN rather than keep the existing signature, and then it was available to all hosts. I then added a vm to the inventory and powered it on and that seemed to work as well.

Thanks to everyone for helping me with this! Hopefully that's the end of this problem.

Matt

Are you using VLANS? If so make sure the physical ports the second host is using are configured properly -

The vmmcores.gz file shows that the EFER.SCE bit is clear.  That explains the illegal opcode exception.  However, I can't see how EFER.SCE got to be clear.  Which version of VirtualBox are you using?
