Will be updating my esxi 5.5 host to build 4722766 from 12/2016. A couple questions
1. Does the newer build come with the newest client?
2. what vsphere client version should be used with build 4722766? Currently have 3237766.
Thanks in advance!

You should be on 4032365 which correlates to 5.5 U3e - you can download from here - Download URLs for VMware vSphere Client (2089791) | VMware KB
I think, you need to check your physical switches and cables.
It seems, there is some miss-configuration on physical layer or hardware problem.
I successfully installed VMware ESXi 6.5 on my NUC5PPYH (Intel Pentium N3700, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) using these steps on Windows 10:
Since the system is lacking support for the Braswell graphic chip you wont see anything on the screen happening besides that last line "Relocating modules and starting up the kernel...".
Just ignore it.
Please note that the ks.cfg script will erase all contents of the drive inside the NUC!

We have a Win 2008R2 File Server with a 100Mb Boot drive (Hard Disk 1) and a 6Tb data drive made up of 3 x 2Tb Drives under the VM setup that are Spanned in windows.
Trying to upgrade this machine to 2012 R2 but it keeps failing and rolling back, and with not a lot of info as to why in the logs. So I'm guessing it could one of three or four 3rd party apps installed causing the problem, or something unknown, and my best bet may be to duplicate this machine into some sort of test lab so i can keep re-installing the 2012R2 upgrade, and messing around until I find what is stopping it.
Now with this being a large VM, I wanted to ask advice on
a) how I can duplicate just the boot drive element of the VM i.e. not carry over the 6Tb data drive too
b) put it into a test lab environment so that I can get it to connect to the internet, but sit on a different LAN so that my users can't see the duplicated version.
Any advice would be most welcome.
Or a third option may be for me to create a new 2012R2 VM and migrate the services over. In this case, could I remove the spanned disk from one VM, and make it available to the new 2012R2 VM?
I have 10 redhat 7 enterprise linux on my cluster. all redhat virtual machines 2 network adapters but on summary tab i see 3 ip address . Each virtual machines has the same ip address ( 192.168.122.1 ) Why this ip address is there ? I did not install the vm's. I think vm's created with templates . are these virtual machines may not be vmware image ? Or these virtual servers may be redhat virtualization but based on VMware . I am not sure.. can you help me. Why do you have the same ip address on these servers
Are you able to power down the server and temporarily disconnect the disks and clone it? Are these VMDK disks or RDMs?
Alternatively you could look at VMware Convertor which would let you choose which disks you want to clone.
In terms of isolating the VM you could either disconnect the network adapters or put it on a port group without an uplink. Depends on exactly what you want to do...
hi, can any one confirm if this issue has been fixed with respect to vm using this patch
Good tip - f the command line- it's 2017 and this applies to esxi 6+ even. This is proper info.
Hello everybody,
I have problem with my server which is HP ProLiant 350, with RAID 5. But few day ago the server faulted. That I move the array to another same kind server. The VMWare ESXi 5.0.0 (build-623860) started. When I login to vSphere Client I see three VMs but named Unknowin (inaccessible). So I cannot see datastore, the device I see but datastore missing.
When I use PowerCLI and write Get-Datastore show nothing. Same reason is when I use dir vmstore:\ha-datacenter
My question is easy: Is possible to restore datastore or can I copy VM to external HDD and run them on new host?
I need only one VM that has size is 150GB. The backup of this VM is corrupted.
Any advice is welcome.
Thank You
Hi.
I've this issue.
If I connect my android smartphone to a Windows (physycal) PC - via USB cable - it show it as a "Remote NDIS based Internet sharing" like this:
The question is:
is there any way to use this feature (Tethering) to connect the smartphone to my ESXi serer so that I should use it as an additional NIC interface and connect / use with any VM inside the server?
In other words, in case of Internet/ADSL failover I'd like to redirect all my Internet traffic by means of this "virtual" interface connected i.e. to a VM that act as a firewall in my network environment and that - normally - has the external interface connected to the ADSL modem and - in this case - it would be connected to this tethered NDSI interface.
I hope I made myself clear.
Thanks in advance
Welcome to the Community,
please follow the steps in the "Command line" section of vSphere handling of LUNs detected as snapshot LUNs (1011387) to see whether it is possible to manually mount the VMFS datastores.
André
Hello André,
you are awesome. Only three line and everything is like before It was quicker than I hope.
Thank You
Tom
Each version of ESX/ESXi (e.g. 5.0, 5.1, 5.5, 6.0) requires it's own vSphere Client version. The different versions can all co-exist on the same system. When you start the vSphere Client, it's only a launcher application which comes up first, and asks for the address, and logon credentials. With this information, the launcher will then determine the ESXi host's (or vCenter Server) version, and load the appropriate vSphere Client version. If this version is not yet installed, you will be asked to install it (your screenshot).
André
Thanks a lot . I installed the correct the vsphere Client version. Now it worked. Thanks again.
The linux could still be retaining the old network adapter information such as IP address, MAC address, etc as per this KB Networking does not work in a cloned Linux virtual machine (2002767) | VMware KB
If you did not customize during cloning, try to do a customization during cloning or deployment and see if that fix the issue: VMware vSphere 6.5 Documentation Library - Customize Linux During Cloning or Deployment
Your situation i never see before. In my opinion, you should download driver(megaraid_sas version 5.34-1vmw) and install it.
Firmware Version is N/A meaning any firmware version is support, but suggest use latest. Also you can open a vmware SR for professional advice .
Thanks jhague!
Was doing a dry run of the latest 5.5 patch. As I mentioned below, I'm on the build 3248547 from 12/2015. Trying to go to 4722766. When I do the dry run, I am getting a dependency error
VIB VMware_bootbank_ehci-ehci-hcd_1.0-3vmw.550.3.95.4345813 requires xhci-xhci >= 1.0-3vmw.550.3.95, but the requirement cannot be satisfied within the ImageProfile.
Still trying to find info on this. Do you have any idea why I'm getting this? Do I need to update to a version prior to the newest one from the one I'm on?
Thanks!
